Marie M. Smoot, 90, resident of Cashmere and Leavenworth for the past 47 years, died Monday evening, Oct. 17, 1988, at the Cashmere Convalescent Center.
She was born July 6, 1898, at St. Libory, Neb., and attended high school and normal school at Grand Island, receiving a teaching certificate.
She taught school and was married to James Smoot. They lived in California and then Old Blewett where they operated a country store and gas station. After her husband's death she moved to Cashmere in 1941 where she lived until 1975 when she moved to Leavenworth. She returned to Cashmere in 1985.
She was an active member of the St. Francis and St. Joseph Catholic Churches.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary McKenzie of Cashmere, Betty Urton of Spokane. Florence Burgess of Kalispell and Marian Martin of Edmonds; two sons and daughters-in-law. Bob and Kay Smoot of Westminster, Calif, and Don and Dona Smoot of Renton; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 11 brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Holy Rosary will be said Wednesday. Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Braun Funeral Chapel with Deacon Bill Osborn officiating.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at SL Francis Catholic Church and burial will be in the Cashmere Cemetery. Father John Shaw will be celebrant. Casketbearers will be Don and Bob Smoot, Sterling McKenzie, Bob Urton, Wayne McKenzie and Walt Martin. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Fund.
The Braun Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Museum meeting Chelan County Historical Museum volunteers will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct 20, at the Coachman in Cashmere.
