Obituary
Miss Diantha Emmons was born on February 22nd, 1843, near Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was married to Wm. H. Dershem, January 22, 1865, who preceded her to the better world January 4th, 1909. To this union were born three children, all of whom survive her. Luna F. and Ernest W. of Severy and Clifford V. of Howard. She also leaves three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors who will mourn her loss.

She was a devoted mother and Christian, having been a member of the Christian church at Howard for many years.

She lived a life filled more or less with grief and sorrow, but in all her trials, she was a courageous, faithful Christian. Her last sickness was of long duration, much pain and gradual weakness until the end. In all she manifested much patience and a strong faith in God.

In September 1872, she moved with her husband and family to Howard county, Kansas, at the present time known as Elk county, on a farm where she lived until five years ago, when she moved with her son, Ernest to Severy, where she lived until her death, March 9, 1921. She was 78 years and fifteen days old at the time of her death.

"Grandma," as she was familiarly known, numbered her friends by her acquaintances. She was the last of her family.

The funeral services were held from the Christian church in Howard, Friday, March 11th, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Jewett, minister of the Christian church.
