Joanna was a sister of Mary A. (Banks) who married Jonathan King Cox.
By 1850 the family was living in McGee County, Kansas, then in 1970 they were in Baker Twp., Crawford County. On September 29, 1872, Joanna married Joseph Benson Fry in Jasper County, Missouri. Joseph was a farmer, like most folks in my family in those days.
If the Frys lived in Missouri, it was only a stopping-off point on their way West because they were living in Bakersfield, Kern Co., CA by 1880, and that is where they remained. They lived on 8th Street for many years.
Joanna and Joseph had 9 children, at least 4 of whom were deceased before the 1900 census was reported. The names of three of their children are unknown.
Their children included:
Nellie, b. 1875, Illinois
Bertha, b. 1878, Bakersfield
Charles Henry, b. Feb 8, 1881, Bakersfield
Hattie M., b. Nov 8, 1886, Bakersfield
Fred D., b. Dec 22, 1889, Bakersfield
Lola Leota, b. Jan 2, 1893, Bakersfield
Joanna's husband died May 26, 1911. She outlived him by 33 years.
