Inman, SC - John E. Aktins died at Spartanburg General Hospital at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1955 following a lenghty illness. He was the son of Perry and Hane Mahaffey Atkins and a native of Spartanburg County, SC and lved there his entire life. A retired farmet and member of The Fingerville Methodist Church and Woodmen of the World. Survivors included: four sons, S. E., J. R., Ralph and Sorrell Atkins; four step-sons, E. V., James, Furman and Clyde Poteat; a step-daughter, Mrs. Bishop; a sister, Mrs. H.C. Bell; one brother; W. D. Atkins; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 11, 1955 at 3:30 p.m. at Buck Creek Baptist Church with interment in the Church Cemetery. He was 60 years of age at his demise.
