James Thurman Cox, 91, passed away peacefully on March 4. He had been a Tehachapi resident for eight years and was a member of Christian Life Assembly of God Church.
James was born on March 18, 1917 in Horsecave, Ky. and moved to California in 1924. He married on Dec. 23, 1940 and had two children. James worked for the Pacific Telephone Company as a switchman for 38 years.
James loved flying and partnered in ownership of a plane. He also loved riding his Goldwing motorcycle and traveling in his motor home. James and his wife, Charlotte, lived in Golden Hills since 2000.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James and Cleo Cox; wife, Charlotte; sister, Luella Lyster; and brother, Norman Cox.
James is survived by his sisters, Evalyn Ghilardi and Bernice Ford; brothers, Melvin and Vernon; sons, James and Kenneth and his wife, Mary; granddaughters, Denice and her husband Michael Richards, Sharyl and her husband Kevin Dennison, and Patricia and her husband, Theodore Schultz II; great-grandsons, Tyler Dennison and Theodore Schultz III; and great-granddaughters, Lynna-Grace Richards and Mackenzie Schultz.
A service was held on March 11 at Wood Family Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Walk Through Bethlehem at Christian Life Assembly of God Church.
