Joseph Parker built his home in Cavendish Center with the help of his son, Joseph Whiting who made the bricks. In the early days Joe and Amy were Methodists but soon afterwards became Baptists.

Joseph was brought up in Westford, MA but moved to wife's home [town] in Cavendish, VT when married. He was a farmer. Had eight children and 36 grandchildren.

The family spent most of their lives in Cavendish, VT, with the exception of some time spent in Corinth, ME, where their daughter Lavinia was born. At the time of her birth, the family was occupying a carrying on a farm, store and house belonging to Mr. Fleichman. They returned to Cavendish soon after her birth.
