John M. Bass was born in Miller Co., Mo. on March 2, 1851, son of William and Melvina Bass. He was married to Alice Williams in the year of 1878, who preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1931. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Burks of Ulman, Jan 29, 1940 at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 27 days.

To them was born four children, namely; (Ida) Mrs. Walter M. Burks, of Ulman, Mo.; (Ollie) Mrs. J. W. Tinsley and Everett Bass, both of Wichita, Kansas. One child died in infancy.

Mr. Bass was a member of the Baptist church since the year 1912. He served one term as collector of Miller County.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters and one son, one brother, Riley Bass of California; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Martin of Ulman, Mo.; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was taken to Golden City where services were held Tuesday, Jan. 30th. Burial was in the Golden City Cemetery.

Mr. Bass left Ulman about 1915, going to Golden City where he operated a general store for 20 years.
