Dennis DeVere HammerSalt Lake Tribune, The (UT) | 14 November 1999Dennis Hammer passed away peacefully at home Nov.12, after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. His courageous and positive attitude throughout his illness was an example for those who knew him.He was born July 3 1938 to Louis D. Hammer and Wilma Carrie (Osborne) Hammer in Brigham City,Utah. He served in the Utah and Montana National Guard. He worked as a mill-wright in Connor, MT and at American Timber in Olney, MT.Dennis married Janice Gool on May 1, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.He is survived by his mother, Wilma Hammer of Bountiful, UT; his wife, Janice; and six children: Earnest Earl Hammer and his wife Myrna of West Yellowstone; Jeannette Price of Salt Lake City; Mary Kay Brunner and husband Doug of Boise, ID; Denise Olsen and husband Dane of Hamilton; Ralph Jay Hammer and wife Angela of Pheonix; Donald L. Hammer and Susie of Kallispell; five brothers, Delone, Keith, Odell, Willard, and Charles Hammer; a sister, Sharron Hellier; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.A graveside service will be held for the family. Should friends desire, the family suggests donations to a memorial in his name at Marcus Daly Hospice, 1200 Westwood Drive, P.O. Box 1697 Hamilton, MT 59840.Dennis had a big, loving heart and a cheerful disposition. He enjoyed being with people, fishing and working. He often worked whistling. He will be greatly missed.
