MRS. WM. H. VAN NICE
Sarah J. Rose was born September 14th, 1833, in Hendricks county, Indiana, where she grew to womanhood.
In March, 1873, she was united in marriage to Wm. H. Van Nice. No children were born to this union, but the following step children survive: Mrs. S. I. McKinley, of Russell; W. A. Van Nice, of Danville, Indiana; M. E. Van Nice, of Palmyra, Missouri; and J. O. Van Nice, of McLaughlin, South Dakota.
She is also survived by one brother, Thos. Rose, of North Salem, Indiana, and one sister, Kate Rose, of Danville, Indiana.
After her marriage they went at once to Lucas county, Iowa, the home of her husband, where they lived until his death on April 14th, 1894. Since then she has made her home for the most part in Danville, Indiana, except for a few years spent in Chicago with her sons, Samuel and Orion.
For the past seven weeks she has been ill, death coming to release her last Tuesday, April 23rd, 1918, at the advanced age of 84 years, 7 months and 9 days. All her life she had been an earnest, faithful Christian and a loyal member of the Presbyterian church.
The remains were brought to Chariton last Thursday morning for burial from the First Presbyterian church, of which she was a faithful member for many years. The services were conducted by the Rev. Chas. W. McClelland Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, interment taking place by the side of her husband in the Chariton cemetery.
During her long residence in this county deceased had won the esteem and admiration of all with whom she came in contact by her many noble qualities and a host of friends here will deplore her demise and will extend sincere sympathy to the surviving relatives.
