The following statement is in the Civil War pension files for Harriet's husband Amer Jackson Bales. Application for the pension was filed by Amer's second wife, Matilda Nolan Bales.
"Harriet wife of A J Beals died Oct. 25th, 1856 Age 37 years & 8 days
"Luther L. Moorman being duly sworn on oath says that the above is a true copy of the inscription on the tomb stone of Harriet Beals, as recorded on said tombstone in Hopewell Cemetery Randolph County Ind"
signed by Luther L. Moorman
"Subscribed and sworn to this 29 day of June 1874"
The tombstone inscription has either worn away since then and is now unreadable or the tombstone itself has been damaged and lost.
