Spartanburg Hearld Journal Obituary, Dec. 2, 1998, C4. Landrum - SAMUEL DAVID ATKINS, Jr., 83, OF 180 Rubin Thorne Road, died Dec. 1, 1998, in St. Luke's hospital. A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late SAMUEL DAVID, Sr. and DAISY EUBANKS ATKINS. He was a member Motlow Creek Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and the choir. He also served at the Church as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher and was the first president of the Young at Heart. He was a retired land surveyor. Surviving are his wife, OPHELIA FOWLER ATKINS of Landrum; two sons, the Rev. MARTIN ATKINS of Greenville and WILLIAM BURT ATKINS of Campobello; two daughters, KAY ANDERSON of Campobello and LINDA HENDERSON of Chesnee; a brother, HAYDEN ATKINS of Landrum; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Motlow Creek Baptist Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Motlow Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. MARTIN ATKINS and TIM SMART. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family is at the home. Memorial may be made to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg County. Petty Funeral Home of Landrum is in charge of arrangements.
