Wenatchee World - Nov 4, 2001

Everett G. Sterley, 91 years young, passed quietly at his home in Wenatchee with his wife and family at his bedside.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1909 at Spring Coulee in the Okanogan to William F. and Alice (Farmer) Sterley.

Everett spent his early years in the Okanogan area working in the various orchards and, at the age of 14, began working for the B & O (Boston/Okanogan) Orchards. Through the years, he continued working as an orchardist and was also involved with the construction of Grand Coulee and Rocky Reach Dams.

In the late 50s, he began leasing orchards and continued until he was 84 years of age.

Everett was known fondly for being a very kind, generous and honest person. He was a good Seventh-day Adventist Christian man.

From those who knew him, he is quoted as saying, "There are two ways of doing things, there's the wrong way and there's Everett's way."

Everett raised four children and two grandchildren with his late wife, Lillian Stereley to whom he was married 53 years.

At the age of 88, Everett took his very first plane ride to retrieve his new bride, Geneva at Alamosa, CO.

Everett was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian, two daughters, Lila and Virginia and two sons, Bill and Richard.

He is survived by his wife Geneva of Wenatchee; three grandsons, Michael Clark of Forks, Dick Nixon of Nampa, ID and Rusty Sloan of Wenatchee. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be held Monday, Nov. 5, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Wenatchee Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Matthew Lombard officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Memorials may be made in Everett's name to The Cascade Christian Academy Worthy Student Fund.
