He served in the navy during World War I at the 1st Naval District Rockland on the USS Satilla. He also attended the Naval Radio School in Cambridge, MA. The USS Satilla (SP-687)was assigned to patrol duties along the coast of Maine throughout the war. He also served with the Maine National Guard during World War II and was ship fitter at Bath Iron Works for 20 years.
