He was employed as a roller at a munitions plant in Waterbury, CT, when America entered World War I. He then enlisted in the navy at New Haven, CT. on December 17, 1917 and was assigned to the training ship Constellation at Newport, RI as a member of the Bluejacket Guard. His rank was apprentice seaman. He died at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Newport, RI of measles and suppurative pleurisy.
