James Allen Koontz, one of Monroe county’s best known residents, died at his home in Harrodsburg last evening at 6:30 of paralysis.
Mr. Koontz had lived in Monroe county all his life and was born here in 1850. He was the head of a large family and is survived by eleven children and his widow.
There are five sons: Delmar, of Clear Creek; Ora, of Midland, and Columbus and Harley Koontz, of Bedford. His son, Claude, is in France with the American Expeditionary Forces. The five daughters are: Mrs. John Wright, of Victor; Mrs. Samuel Harrel, of San Francisco, Cal,; Mrs. George Luther and Mrs. Fred Chambers, of Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Everitt Foddrill, of this city. The surviving brothers are Freeland Koontz , of this city, and Morton Koontz, of California. The surviving sisters are Mrs. J.M. May, of Stanford; Mrs. Thomas Rush, of South Union, and Mrs. Alex Mercer, of California.
Mr. Koontz was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, and a prominent as a member of the Harrodsburg lodge of Odd Fellows.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at Harrodsburg in charge of the rev. Perlee, of Pekin, Ind.

James Koontz, 69 years of age, of Harrodsburg, father of Monon Roadmaster Columbus Koontz, of this city, died at his home at that place about 6 o’clock Monday evening.
He had been suffering from influenza, which was followed by a stroke of paralysis Monday, resulting in his death. He is survived by the aged wife and ten children, five daughters and five sons, and all living in different states and married except one son, the youngest who is in service in France.
Roadmaster Koontz went to Harrodsburg this morning. No funeral arrangements had yet been made.
