Roy was educated at Lewis Institute, Chicago, and worked as personnel director for NTN Bearings of Des Plaines, Illinois, a Japanese bearing manufacturer. He enjoyed raising roses and playing both golf and bridge. He married Anna Marie Robinson on April 9, 1939. His wife survived him (dying in June 1995), and their son and their daughter survived him.
Roy was an Englewood Mason and El Jebel Shriner.
