Joe was regarded as a comer in the auto racing scene. He was instantly killed when a steering knuckle broke coming into the homestretch on the thirty eighth lap. The Sebring car he was driving skidded through the safety railing turning over twice and dropping fifteen feet to the ground.
He was interred on August 11th.Joe Cooper's burial in the mausoleum is located in D 14 on the east side. This spot is shown in the upper left hand corner and there was NO inscription found
