Evelyn Lowman Wilson was gathered to her ancestors Wednesday evening. She had lived quietly at the same Hiwassee house for all of her eighty one years. For fifty of those years she was married to Jason C. Wilson who lives on at the homeplace. Forty nine years ago she gave birth to a son, Jason David, who lives nearby with his wife, Debbie and son, Joe. Her mother and father, Margaret Hurst Lowman and Jason Mitchell Lowman came from Wythe County in the late 1800's. There were eleven children, one of whom survives, Mrs. Lottie L. Riordan of Falls Church. Evelyn dedicated her life to serving her whole family, her church, and her neighbors in any capacity for which they needed her. A lifelong member of Cecil's Chapel United Methodist Church, she will be remembered as the pianist, caretaker of the cemetery and communion steward, jobs she held for as long as she was able. Well known for her excellent cooking, vitality and the lesson of loyalty she taught us all, her loving nature and sense of humor were there to the end. She was the surviving matriarch of an old and large family and her passing leaves a void in this family that will not be filled. Anyone who wishes may visit at Thomas M. Seagle A Sons Funeral Home anytime Friday and the family will be there Friday from seven until nine p.m. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Bill Edmonds at Cecil's Chapel United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday after which she will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the church.
