Herbert Covey, 85, of Hiwassee died Tuesday morning in the Tazewell Community Hospital. He was born in Max Creek and was the son of the late James Covey and Emma Owen Covey. He was a retired employee of Burlington Industries, Newbern. Surviving are his wife Sadie Phillips Covey of Hiwassee; two daughters, Mrs. Clifton (Mary Ann) Dean of Chicago, 111. and Mrs. Bill (Emma) Surber of Pulaski; two sons, Harley Covey of Greensboro, N.C. and Harry Covey of Barren Springs; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Fulcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Cecil's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pulaski County. Visiting will be tonight at Stevens Funeral Chapel and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the Pulaski County Lifesaving Crew.
