Julia A. Mart, 24, Brasie Corners, was driving her husband to Watertown for his first day on a new job Tuesday morning when they were both killed in a head-on collision in the town of Clayton.

Mrs. Mart was a drug and alcohol abuse counselor at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility.

Horace H. Albaugh, superintendent of Cape Vincent Correctional Facility, said Mrs. Mart was "well-regarded" at the prison. "Employees are in shock, and inmates are also grieving for her."

She began her job there Jan. 6, 1997, he said.

Joint services for the couple will begin with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral at Foxwood Memorial Park chapel, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. Joel Bennett of Ogdensburg Wesleyan Church officiating. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The couple were married Feb. 14, 1994, in Ogdensburg Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Bernard Fortune officiating.

Mrs. Mart previously worked at the Mater Dei College Bookstore, Ogdensburg.

Born May 26, 1973, in Ogdensburg, daughter of Robert F. and Katherine Ann Pontius Gladding, she graduated from OFA in 1991 and later from Mater Dei College, Ogdensburg, with a degree in drug and alcohol counseling.

She enjoyed cross-stitch and motorcycle riding.

Surviving Mrs. Mart are her parents, of Ogdensburg; a sister and a brother. Another brother died at birth.
