Son of Charles Brandon and raised by step mother Sarah "Sallie" Barker.*

Hiram married Catherine Dunlap, October 9, 1858, Belmont County, Ohio. He was a coal miner and farmer.

American Civil War soldier record - Enlisted as Private Union Army, Sep 1864, Age 35, Drafted to Company C, Ohio 38th Infantry Regiment on 27 Sep 1864; mustered out on 10 Jun 1865.

1910 Census - He and Catherine had 10 children, 5 living.

A Civil War Pension was granted to Hiram in 1887 for injuries sustained "leg poisoned" and reissued in 1907, then to his widow in 1919.

*Note: If he was born in 1829, then his biological mother was Frances /Frannie Schlosser/Slusser/Schlosher who some records indicate died in 1830 or after. Her name is Suffrona Brandon on gravestone.
There is also a great deal of speculation on the birth year/age of Sarah Barker and some stories about her age are simply legend.

His death certificate gives birth year 1833 which would still be before Sarah married Charles and I believe is incorrect.

Among his known siblings are Simeon, Alexander, Rachel, James, Martin VanBuren, Charles, Josephus, John, Jacob, Abraham.

Notes on children:
Hiram and Catherine had a son Hiram Albert, born January 15, 1879, Belmont, Ohio.

Elizabeth, born Benwood, WV, married William McCleary. She died February 4, 1947, Steubenville, age 82.
