Mrs Effie Thatcher

Mrs Effie Cannon Bruns Thatcher 89 wife of Col Charles H Thatcher died Tuesday morning at the Winyah Extended car Center after a long period of declining health.

Graveside funeral services were Wednesday in Elmwood Cemetery. Officiating was Dr Charles A Graves. Burial followed directed by Mayer Funeral Home.

Mrs Thatcher was born at Enfield Plantation on Oct 1 1892 a daughter of the late Benjamin Walker Cannon and Mrs May Fleming Cox Cannon. She graduated from the old Winyah Indigo Society School and attended Columbia College. For a time Mrs Thatcher was Dean of Women at Sue Bennett Methodist College in London Ky. She was cofounder and librarian of the Georgetown County Library for 25years. Mrs Thatcher was also one of the founders of the Lunch Room Program in the local schools. She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of Canton PA a daughter Mrs Betty Bruns McConnell of Georgetown and a granddaughter and two nephews.
