Joseph was the son of Henry Ament & Catherine Weiss. He married Margaret Johnson on 22 Sep 1891 in Worthington, Dubuque, Iowa. They were the parents of Emma, Mary, Bertha, William, Joe P, Alphonse, Emil, Alfred, and Ralph.
Cherokee Daily Times - Monday , October 19th, 1959 - Joseph H. Ament 89, who lived at 731 West Willow in Cherokee, died at his home Sunday evening, Oct 18 after a lingering illness. He had been a resident of this county and community for a period of 52 years where he had been engaged in farming and carpentering.
Survivors are 2 daughters: Mrs Emma Reinert of Cherokee and Sister Mary Geraldine of Detroit, MI; and 6 sons: William of Marcus, Joe P of Providence, RI, Alphonse, Emil, Alfred, and Ralph all of Cherokee. One brother Chris Sr of Dubuque, 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 1946 and a daughter Bertha in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 9 Wednesday, Oct 21. Burial will be in Mt Calvary Cemetery Cherokee.
