Mrs. Peter Hentges Of Oyens Dies
Death Quite Sudden--Sick Only One Day---Funeral Held Today

Mrs. Peter Hentges, a resident of Oyens for over 30 years, passed away at her home there last Friday. Mrs. Hentges was taken sick on Thursday evening.

Anna Ament was born August 8, 1853, at Rochester, New York. At the age of six she moved with her parents to Iowa and settled near Worthington, Iowa. In 1871, she was united in marriage with Peter Hentges. They resided at Worthington until they came to Plymouth county almost 58 years ago. They first settled near Remsen and were successful farmers in that vicinity. Later they moved to Oyens and made their home there.

Survivors include two daughtes, Mrs. Michael Heinen of Cherokee and Miss Josephine Hentges at home; three sons, T. F. Hentges, Farmer, S. D.; J. M. Hentges, Oyens, and M. E. Hentges, of Le Mars; three brothers, Theodore Ament and Christ Ament of Worthington, Iowa, and Joe Ament of Cherokee; two sisters, Mrs. Peter Kohns, and Mrs. Theodore Hecket of Cherokee. There are also 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and three children, Mrs. Barney Mai of Le Mars and two children who died in infancy.

Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning from St. Catherine's church at Oyens with Rev. H. Rolfen officiating. Burial was made in St. Catherine's cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Wiltgen's funeral directors.

Mrs. Hentges was a devout member of the Catholic church and was a member of the Christian Mother's society.

Mrs. Anna Hentges Pioneer Woman Taken By Death
Well Known And Esteemed Resident Of County Over Half A Century

Mrs. Anna Hentges, a resident of Plymouth county for fifty-three years, died at her home in Oyens, Friday, January 3, at the age of 82 years. Mrs. Hentges, who enjoyed good health during a long and useful life, was stricken Thursday evening and never rallied.

Her maiden name was Anna Ament. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ament, were born in Germany and came to America when young. Anna was born in Rochester, N.Y., August 8, 1853. When she was a child of six years, her parents came westward and settled near Worthington, Iowa, where she grew up and was married to Peter Hentges in 1871. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hentges farmed near Worthington and in the early eighties joined the rush of land seekers to northwestern Iowa. They farmed in Remsen and Oyens vicinities for many years.

Mrs. Hentges lived in Oyens the last thirty-four years.

Leaves Many Descendants

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Michael Heinen, of Cherokee, Miss Josephine Hentges, of Oyens, and three sons, T. F. Hentges, of Fairview, S.D., J. M. Hentges, of Oyens, and M. C. Hentges, of Le Mars; three brothers, Theodore Ament and Chris Ament, Worthington, Iowa, Joe Ament, of Cherokee, and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Kohns and Mrs. Theodore Hecket, of Cherokee. She leaves fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Her husband and three children preceded her in death, two in infancy, and Mrs. Barney Mai, well known resident here many years.

Mrs. Hentges was a devoted member of the Catholic church, active in church work and its societies and a member of the Christian Mothers society. She was a devoted wife, mother and home maker. She was one of the band of pioneer women, who with their husbands helped to build up the country, now developed from bare prairie to one of the garden spots in one of the best agricultural states in the Union.

Funeral services were held Monday morning in St. Catherine's church, in Oyens. Rev. Father Henry Rolfes officiating, and interment was made in St. Catherine cemetery at Oyens.
