Gladys was born on Nov. 15, 1920, in Carlton, Kan., the daughter of Bern and Fredricka (Reiff) Ade. She married Albert C. Martin on Aug. 25, 1940, at the Temple Church in Gypsum, Kan. He died March 27, 2001, in Emporia.
Gladys was a homemaker. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Salina and was very active in church activities. She volunteered at the Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia for the last 12 years.
Survivors include: one son, Alan L. Martin, of Salina; one daughter, Sandy Browning, of Emporia; brothers, Emanuel Ade, of Newton, Ezra Ade, of Salina, and Nathan Ade, of Gypsum; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ralph E. Ade and Louis B. Ade, and sisters, Lena Jones and Martha Mortimer.
Graveside services will be held at the Roselawn Cemetery in Salina at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, with the service conducted by Pastor Dean Fox of Madison. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
Memorials may be sent in care of the funeral home, 605 State St., Emporia, Kan., to the H. Dale Buck Fund or Hand in Hand Hospice
