Nathan L. Ade 97, passed away Tuesday, August 5th, in Salina. He was born May 13, 1917 near Carlton, the son of Bern and Johanna (Reiff) Ade. Growing up in the area, Nathan attended local schools and graduated from Gypsum Rural High School with the class of 1936. He founded his own dirt construction business, which later with his brother-in-law formed Martin & Ade Dirt Construction. Martin & Ade was one of the first construction companies that did soil conservation work. They built many ponds and terraces through out the area. Later when the soil conservation work subsided, they started building road projects and dams. They were charter members of the Kansas Land Improvement Contractors Association. Nathan was a life time farmer in the Carlton and Gypsum area. On July 14, 1940 he married Idelle Meyer. All of their married life was spent in the Carlton and Gypsum area. She preceded him in death July 31, 1990. On March 21, 1998, he married Arlene Kohman. Most of their married life was spent in the Abilene and Gypsum area until moving to Salina in 2011. He was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers and two grandchildren. Nathan was a life time member of the Carlton First Baptist Church serving as a deacon and treasurer. Nathan's faith in God was shown throughout his entire life. He was a faithful servant of the Lord. He will be greatly missed by all of his family.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, August 8th, at the First Baptist Church in Salina, 843 Lewis, with Dr. Kevin Hazelton and Pastor Arlee Butterfield officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, August 7th at the Danner Funeral Home, Abilene, Ks. The family suggests memorial contribution in his name be made to the Temple Church Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home; POB 758; Abilene, Kansas 67410
