Lee was the second son of William and Elizabeth [Wilson] Buie. His elder brother John died during the Civil War. Lee took his law degree from Cumberland University. After his father died in 1880, he moved from Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky to Jones County, TX along with his younger brother B. Frank [another lawyer]. After acquiring some land and building a house, his mother Elizabeth, brother Joel, and sister Mary V "Jennie" Buie joined him. He served as county judge in Jones County from 1882 to 1886. On 25 November 1913, at the age of 66 years, he was married for the first time. Miss Laura Della Moody was some 30+ years younger and presented him with two lovely girls: Laura Ruth and Mary Lee. Unfortunately, he died several months before his Mary Lee was born.
Lee not only practiced law and served as judge but owned substantial land in Jones and Stonewall counties, was instrumental in bringing the railroad through the area, and for a time owned a factory. In 1907, he was elected the 4th mayor of Stamford. As of 2009, his 94-year-old daughter Laura remains in Anson, and he has other descendants in Texas, California and elsewhere.
