Abe's life on earth ended just 16 days short of his 76th birthday. Now he is with his Lord. He was one of ten children born to Peter H. Bartsch and Susie (Wiebe) Bartsch in Delft, Minnesota.

At age eight he moved to a farm in Reedley, Ca. and graduated from Reedley High School, Fresno State College, and Springfield College. He taught grades four, five and six in Reedley and Fresno for 33 years, enjoying gifted, choral groups and storytelling. He retired in 1991.

He was preceded in death by Paul and Blanch Bartsch; Polly Duerksen, Si Bartsch, Susie Kornelsen, Pete Bartsch, Jim Bartsch, Marty Romsdahl and three nephews.

He is survived by Becky Bartsch, his wife of 43 years; daughter, Heidi Bartsch and her husband Mark De Vito; daughter, Elli Reid and her husband Chris Reid; grandchildren Aidan Anthony and Wylder Grey DeVito, and Maiya Elizabeth and Xander Franklin Reid; sisters, Sophie Bartsch and Jenny Mitchell; brothers-in-law Vern Duerksen and Art Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Nadine Bartsch, Dolores Bartsch and Roberta Bartsch; 19 nieces and nephews and their families.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at University Presbyterian Church, on Friday, May 22, 2009, at 2:30 p.m.

Remembrances may be made to University Presbyterian Church, 1776 E. Roberts Ave., Fresno, Ca., 93710, Calvin Crest Christian Camp, 45800 Calvin Crest Road, Oakhurst, Ca. 93644, or to the family towards a plaque at the Zoo, a place he so enjoyed with his family.
