Our most beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend peacefully and humbly joined his sweetheart Wilma on May 17, 2009. He resided at 1071 East Yale Avenue (1100 South) in the Central City neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of his death.

Max was born January 12, 1924 in Tropic, Utah to Maurice and Olive DeEsta Cope.

He spent his younger years in Bryce Canyon and Zions Park, enjoying nature and every opportunity to fish. Graduated from Jordan High School, attended BYU, LDS Business College, and proudly served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Wedderburn from 1944-1946.

Dad retired from the US Postal Service as a mail handler in 1985. An avid story teller, he had a sharp mind and could remember who, what, where, when, how, and then some.

Dad loved to fish and cherished those times spent with his family - especially his grandkids. He was also an avid gardener, handyman and a giant when it came to finding value in everything he touched. As a High Priest in the LDS Church, he cherished the Gospel and teachings he was raised with.

On April 19, 1963, his dreams came true when he married his sweetheart Wilma Dorsey. From their union he was blessed with two daughters, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren who affectionately called him Great PaPa.

He cherished his family and was seldom seen without his Camcorder as he lovingly recorded family memories. Grandpa enjoyed quality time with his grandkids, teaching them life's valuable lessons.

Dad is survived by daughter Janet Cope and wife Cathy Healey, grandsons Alex Elton (Robert Elton) and Zachary Tragakis, granddaughter Avery Tragakis and their PaPa's Michael Tragakis and John Apel; daughter Wendy Colibert and husband Greg, grandson Jesse (Nikki), granddaughters Heather and McKenzie; great-grandchildren Auden, Daimeyon and Keigyn. Also survived by sister Rhea Jensen, brother Ken Cope, sisters-in-law Clara Cope and Miriam Cope as well as many cherished others. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Neldon, Elmo, Grant and Gene; sisters Gwen Cope and Etna Crosgrove. Also waiting for him are his kitty companions Tiger and Buddy.

We will greatly miss this amazing man who taught us through his wisdom, a strong work ethic and to embrace nature, fishing, education, and family.
