Aaron Cover was born near Baltimore, MD. April 5th, 1833, and died at his home in Pasadena, California, on September 15, 1916, aged 83 years, 5 months and 10 days. In 1840 the family moved to Seneca County, Ohio and settled near Fostoria; in 1855 he came to Iowa and settled in Millersburg where he engaged in blacksmithing; he later went into the mercantile business and established an extensive general merchandise store; everyone in the old precinct remembers the store of Cover & Baird. In 1905 he retired from active business, transferring his store in Millersburg to his brother Dennis. Mr. Cover then moved to Pasadena, California, where he resided until death claimed him.

In the fall of 1856 he was married to Miss Mahala J. Huff, and to them were born nine children, three of whom died in infancy. The remaining children are T. W. Cover, Kewsick, Iowa; U. G. Cover, Fort Morgan, Colorado; S. A. Cover, Pasadena, Calif., P. O. Cover, Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Stella Conroy, Ottumwa, Iowa; and Mrs. Grace Pierce, Fort Morgan, Colorado. His wife died May 2nd, 1894; he was afterwards married to Mrs. Mary A. Bryant; to them was born one child who died in infancy.

Mr. Cover was for many years a friend and supporter of the Methodist Episcopal church in Millersburg, and in 1890, during the pastorate of the Rev. G. B. Swartz, he made a profession of religion and united with the church, and ever after remained a faithful and devoted member.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his loss one step-daughter, Della A. Hill; his brother, Dennis Cover, of Millersburg: eight grand children, and a large circle of more distant relatives and friends.

The remains were brought to Millersburg on Thursday morning, Sept. 21st, and the funeral was held from the Methodist Episcopal Church (which Mr. Cover was largely instrumental in having built) at 2 p.m. The services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. L. O. Housel, assisted by the Rev. E. C. Brooks, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Columbus Junction, who delivered the funeral discourse and the Rev. Cole of the Methodist Protestant Church of Millersburg. The church was crowded to its utmost capacity, attesting the esteem in which this truly good man was held by his neighbors and friends. Interment was in the beautiful cemetery at Millersburg, Iowa.
