In the fall of 1856 he was married to Miss Mahala J. Huff, and to them were born nine children, three of whom died in infancy. The remaining children are T. W. Cover, Kewsick, Iowa; U. G. Cover, Fort Morgan, Colorado; S. A. Cover, Pasadena, Calif., P. O. Cover, Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Stella Conroy, Ottumwa, Iowa; and Mrs. Grace Pierce, Fort Morgan, Colorado. His wife died May 2nd, 1894; he was afterwards married to Mrs. Mary A. Bryant; to them was born one child who died in infancy.
Mr. Cover was for many years a friend and supporter of the Methodist Episcopal church in Millersburg, and in 1890, during the pastorate of the Rev. G. B. Swartz, he made a profession of religion and united with the church, and ever after remained a faithful and devoted member.
Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his loss one step-daughter, Della A. Hill; his brother, Dennis Cover, of Millersburg: eight grand children, and a large circle of more distant relatives and friends.
The remains were brought to Millersburg on Thursday morning, Sept. 21st, and the funeral was held from the Methodist Episcopal Church (which Mr. Cover was largely instrumental in having built) at 2 p.m. The services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. L. O. Housel, assisted by the Rev. E. C. Brooks, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Columbus Junction, who delivered the funeral discourse and the Rev. Cole of the Methodist Protestant Church of Millersburg. The church was crowded to its utmost capacity, attesting the esteem in which this truly good man was held by his neighbors and friends. Interment was in the beautiful cemetery at Millersburg, Iowa.
