Daniel was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and married Nancy Angeline Lee on Sept. 2, 1861 in Greene County, IL. Their first daughter, Lizzie only lived for 2 years and is buried in Litchfield, IL. She is the first burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Their second daughter, Eutha and then George was born, both in Litchfield. The family moved to NE and eventually to CA. Daniel had served in the He served in the Civil War as Capt., Co. D, 32 Reg's Illinois Vet. Inf. He entered the CW on 29 Aug. 1861 at Greenfield, Greene Co, IL andserved 3 years and 4 months, and his name is listed on a bronze plaque on the Illinois Memorial Monument at Vicksburg National Military Park and died at the Soldier's Home in California of chronic diffuse nephritis and arterio-sclerosis. He had been a resident there for 3 years and 9 days. Nancy died in 1921 and was cremated.
