Lizzie was the first child of Daniel McLennan and Nancy Angeline Lee McLennan and the first burial in this cemetery. In a letter dated Sept. 25, 1864 from Kennesaw, GA, where her father was serving in the Civil War as a Captain in Co. D, 32 Regt. Ill. Infantry, he requested that his resignation be accepted by stating: "My business having been left in an unsettled state upon entering the service and so long a time having elapsed it now requires my immediate and personal attention. And in addition my wife and child are in very ill health, the latter not expected to live." (taken from his pension record)
