Life was completed for a man who had lived 77 years in the Danforth Community when Jerry Koets passed away at 6:45 Thursday evening April 25th 1956 in the St. Mary's Hospital where he had been a patient since Easter Sunday. He reached the ripe old age of 80 years, 5 months and 5 days. Mr. Koets had been ill at his home for a week with double bronchial pneumonia, before entering the hospital and being placed under oxygen.

Jerry Koets, the son of Peter and Tryntie Heitsma Koets was born on Nov. 20, 1876 in the Netherlands and came to America with his parents and an older brother Edward Oct. 1880 when 3 years old. They settled near Danforth and Jerry spent his boyhood on various farms in the area and attended the rural schools which the community provided.

The family attended the Reformed Church in Danforth and at an early age he became a faithful member, and served in offices as Deacon and Elder for years in its consistory (council).

On Dec. 17, 1900 Jerry Koets was united in marriage to Flora Perzee of Danforth. They lived in the community until their retirement about 20 years ago when moving to their present home.
Two daughters and two sons were born to their union.

After retirement in the year 1943 Mr. Koets health suddenly failed, from which he never fully recovered. However he was again able to enjoy life about his home. He was very content to be at home with his loved ones and was a faithful attendant at the morning church services in spite of failing health.

He leaves to morn his passing, his wife Flora, daughters Mrs. Cora Kremer, Mrs. Tracy Berchers, of Danforth and sons Tim of Ashkum and Arthur of Des Plaines, IL. eleven grandchildren and 3 great grand children.
His father, mother and older brother preceded him in death. He was a faithful and loving husband and father, a kind friend and neighbor. A son Arthur of Des Plaines at present in the Catalina Islands was unable to attend the funeral.
