Patrick was the son of James Jones and Ava Case Jones. His father was born in 1833 in Wentworth, Rockingham, North Carolina to Newman Jones and Tabitha Rakestraw Jones. He married Ava Case on 4 Sep 1855 in guilford County, North Carolina. He died 15 Aug 1863 from wounds he suffered at the Battle of Gettysburg in July of 1863. The place of death and location of burial is unknown. His mother, Ava Case Jones, married James Harris in 1868. They took the famil and moved to Spiceland, Henry, Indiana in 1870.
