A feeling of profound sorrow swept over the community Tuesday morning, March 28, when news was heard that Dorothy Higley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. CM Higley, has died. She had been in ill health for a long time, but few of our people realized that she was in a serious condition and found it hard to comprehend the fact that she was no longer living. Dorothy was born on December 23, 1899, and in this city spent all but about one year of her life. She was a graduate of the Cawker City High School in the class of 1918 and as a student always ranked high. After finishing school here she went to Grand Junction, Colorado, where she took a business course, but did not remain in the west long, preferring to live at home. About two and a half years ago it was discovered that she had contracted tuberculosis, and every effort was made to check the ravages of that dread disease, but without avail. For almost a year she was at the state sanatarium at Norton, but left that institution about a year ago, and it was the earnest hope of her many friends that she would win back her health, but like a beautiful rose which sheds its fragrance on the air even while it is dying, so she continued among those who loved her, until at last her frail strength was spent, and she quietly passed away.
