Olney Merle Mohney, 98, died May 28, 2007 a Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson. He was born January 3, 1909 at Sawyer, the son of the late Lyman E. and Clara B. (Ball) Mohney.
He was a graduate of Sawyer High School and Kansas State University, earning a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering in 1931. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and R.O.T.C. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Haviland. He had been a member of the Pratt Saddle Club. A resident of the Dillon Living Center since 2000, formerly a 65-year resident of Haviland, he was a farmer and veterinary assistant to his brother, Leonard Mohney, D.V.M., of Pratt. He was also employed by Kansas State Artificial Breeders Association and as a school custodian for Haviland High School.
On July 27, 1932 he married Edna Edith Brown of Fort Scott at Manhattan, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 6, 1998. His sisters Ruth Humble and Louise Farmer also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his four daughters: Nancy (Edward) Proctor, Normal, IL; Jane (Carl) Nellis, Jerome, Idaho; MaryBeth (Richard) Chenoweth, Rawlins, Wyoming and Susan (Richard) Zieman of El Dorado, Kansas. Also surviving is a sister, Marjorie Gilbert, Hutchinson and is brother, Leonard Mohney, Pratt; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of life service will be held on June 1, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Haviland United Methodist Church.
In lieu of floral remembrances the family requests that memorials be made to the United Methodist Church in Haviland or Hospice of Kansas in care of Larrison Mortuary.
