Leonard Wesley Mohney, 92, retired veterinarian, died on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012. He was born on Jan. 5, 1920, in Sawyer, to Lymon and Clara (Ball) Mohney, who preceded him in death. Leonard attended grade school and high school in Sawyer, followed by two years at Pratt Community College and three years at Kansas State University where he graduated in 1943 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

In 1944, he married Betty Goodness who would become his loving partner for 68 years. Leonard served in the U.S. Army as a captain in the Veterinary Corps during World War II, and upon his discharge, he returned to Pratt to establish a private practice.

While making his home and career in Pratt, Leonard was involved in numerous area and community activities, including the Pratt Rotary Club and the Pratt Saddle Club. He served as a leader for the local Boy Scouts of America and was an active member of the First Christian Church, Pratt.

As a veterinarian, he was a lifetime member of both the AVMA and the KVMA, ending his remarkable career by retiring in 1990 after 45 years.

Leonard's hobbies over the years have included farming the family homestead at Sawyer, boating and water skiing, and driving and training Belgian draft horses. He was always busy, even in retirement; his was a life lived fully.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Betty Mohney; daughters, Carolyn (Gene) Blackwelder of Caldwell, Idaho, and Priscilla (Myron) Zeller of Goddard; son, Richard (Barbara) Mohney of Benton; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the First Christian Church, Pratt, followed by a luncheon and time to meet with family. Cremation has taken place.
