Evartt R. Steed, 55, 300 Elm a resident of Leavenworth County for over 50 years, died Monday in Rochester, Minn. He had been in failing health for several months.
Born July 3, 1910 in Sterling County, Tex., Mr. Steed was the son of Ray and Sylvia Coulter Steed. The family came to Leavenworth County when he was four years old and settle in the Springdale Community.
. He attended schools in Spring- dale and Lansing and graduate from Lansing High School. 0n Dec. 22, 1937, in Kansas City Kan., he was married to Miss Delphia Wiley.
Mr. Steed was a construction worker during the war, doing work for the government at the U. S. Disciplinary Barracks a Ft. Leavenworth and also at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant in DeSoto, Kan. He had been employed at the Kansas State Penitentiary at Lansing as an engineer.
He was a member Carpenters Union No. 61 of Kansas City, the Laborers Union, the American Waterworks Association, the Nine Mile Masonic Lodge of Lansing, Leavenworth Chapter No. 2 RAM, Leavenworth Council No. 1 R&SM and Leavenworth
Commandery, Knights of Templar.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs, Delphia Steed of the home, a brother, Ray Steed, Lansing; a sister, Mrs. Vera Sherley,
Lansing; one nephew and two nieces.
