I have a letter written to my grandmother, Murriel Addington Green [daughter of John William Addington], on 10 Nov, 1920, from her cousin Ruth Smith Stover [daughter of Hattie Lou Addington Smith] of Rte 4 Gainesville, GA. Here is what she said:
"I have got sad news to tell you, and that is that Grandma died the 30 of Oct. Murriel you know we all sure do miss her but she is better off. For it was over a month before she died that she couldn't move. she had to be tended to just like a baby and she sure did suffer a lot. She talked a hole lot about wanting to see uncle Will [Nancy and Jim's son John William Addington]. She knowed every thing on up till she died. They put her away in a white robe and a white casket and her grave had the most flowers on it I every saw on one grave. I am sending you one of the flowers of course it is not as pretty as it was but I thought I would send it any way. Grandpa is doing very well now but he sure does look lonesome. he wont [come] around the house at all. he stays in the field most all the time. he sure did take it hard when Grandma died."
