Nicola Nico dead at 69
Retired Lansing Grocer Succombs Friday at Home Here
Nicola Nico, 69, of 532 S. Grand, retired Lansing grocer, died unexpectedly Friday morning at his home.
A native of Italy, Mr. Nico came to Lansing 43 years ago. He first operated a fruit market and grocery store on E. Michigan ave. at a place now occupied by England Cook Chevrolet company.
Later he opened another grocery store at 326 S. Washington ave., which he operated until his retirement in 1946.
Mr. Nico was a member of St. Mary Cathedral.
Surviving are the widow, Carmela; one daughter, Mrs. Anne Stopel of Lansing; three sons, Phillip of Birmingham, Peter of LaJolla, Cal., and Nunzio of Lansing; five grandchildren; two brothers, Dominic of Lansing, and Bartholomew of Bari, Italy, and one sister, Mrs. Angela Delli of Toralto, Italy.
The body is at Gorsline-Runciman funeral home where funeral arrangements will be completed.

Nicola Nico
Funeral services for Nicola Nico, 69, who died Friday at his home, 532 S. Grand ave., will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from St. Mary's cathedral. Solemn requiem high mass will be sung with Rev. Gerald Boyer as celebrant, Rev. Fr. James Kavenaugh as deacon and Rev. Fr. Antonio Herrara as sub-deacon. Burial will be in Deepdate Memorial Gardens mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Patsy Verderese, Vito Cicorelli, August Nardo, Mauro Gadeleto, Mike Brodella and Joseph Mastrovito. Rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 8 o'clock at the Gorsline-Runciman funeral home. Mr. Nico was a resident of Lansing for 43 years. He was a member of St. Mary cathedral, a veteral of World War I and a member of Maurice Harvey Dixon post No. 12, American Legion.
