Egyptian Pharaoh. He was the High Priest of Amun at Thebes from 1070 BC until 1032 BC, during a period when the priesthood were the effective rulers of southern Egypt. He inherited the position of High Priest while still a child, but only came to power after the death of the High Priest Herihor. His power base was at Thebes, and he had control over Middle and Upper Egypt, which he ruled independently from the Twenty First Dynasty Pharaohs based at Tanis in the North. He declared himself Pharaoh, and secured his position by marrying the daughter of Rameses XI, their son, Psusennes I, later became Pharaoh at Tanis. His mummy was found in the cache of royal mummies at Deir el Bahri, and is now held in Cairo Museum.
