Kelcie Dean Axsom
1929 - 2009

Kelcie Dean Axsom, 79, Norman, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at his residence.

He was a member of Norman Pentecostal Church and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Axsom was a retired school bus driver with Brownstown Central Community School Corp. and belonged to the Jackson County Fox Hunters, Morgan-Brown County Fox Hunters and the Indiana State Fox Hunters Association.

Born Oct. 1, 1929, in Brown County, he was the son of Eathel and Elsie Croucher Axsom, both of whom preceded him in death. On Feb. 19, 1965, in Brownstown, he married Phyllis Starnes Axsom, who survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Kelcie Axsom Jr., Massachusetts, and Alan Dale Axsom, Brownstown; one daughter, Pamela Kay (Cliff) Thomas, Norman; one brother, Harold Axsom, Bloomington; two sisters, Loberta Fleetwood, Bedford, and JoAnn (Marc) Henderson, Evansville; seven grandchildren, Kelcie Axsom III, Kyle Axsom, Jacob Axsom, Amanda Axsom, Raven Thomas, Hayley Thomas and Jared Thomas; and his mother-in-law, Leona Axsom.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Axsom, Howard Axsom and Delmar Axsom, and one sister, Loretta Fields.

The Rev. Larry Tedrow will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Spurgeon Funeral Home in Brownstown. Interment will be at Liberty Cemetery. Full military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 89, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7 of Seymour.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the family through the funeral home.

At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by family and friends. He loved his wife, Phyllis, of 44 years, his children and grandchildren and mother-in-law, Leona Axsom. Special thanks goes to Pastor Larry and wife Judy Tedrow for their love, support and prayers. Special thanks goes to Alan's companion, Deirde Gray, and daughter, Daphne, for opening their home and their hearts to Kelcie and all his family and friends. Kelcie loved driving his school bus No. 24 for Brownstown Central Community School Corp. for 26 years. He worked at Hickory Hills Golf Course and Bullard's Food Service. His favorite hobbies were 4-H with children and grandchildren. He loved going fox hunting with his hounds to spend time with his hunting buddies. He will be missed by one and all.
