Mrs. Ellen Weedmark, whose maiden name was Kelley, departed from this life on the fourteenth day of April 1916. Her stay on earth had been seventy-three years, lacking twenty-three days.
She was born in Huron county, Ontario, Canada, May 7, 1843. She was married to William Cook on April 30, 1861, at Toronto, Canada, and to them were born nine children, six sons and three daughters, of whom seven survive her. Mr. Cook died in Lamoni in 1898.
On the ninth of August, 1899, she was married to Nathan Weedmark, and he passed away November 9, 1911. Since then she has spent most of the time with her children at St. Joseph, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas, and she died while at the latter place.
She received and obeyed the gospel of Christ, along with her husband, Mr. Cook, in 1869, at Blenheim, Canada.
Funeral services were held at the Saints' church in Kansas City, Monday, and then her body was brought to Lamoni for burial.
Four of her children attended the service here, namely, Mrs. E. J. Edwards and Mrs. Elva A. Muir of Kansas City, George Cook of St. Joseph and Bird Cook of Falls City, Nebraska. Those unable to be present were Mrs. Almeda Edwards of Steelton, Ontario, James P. Cook of Edmunds, Washington, and N. E. Cook on board battleship Maine at New York City.
The service in Lamoni was held in the Saints' church on April 18th. Sermon by Elder H. A. Stebbins assisted by Elder D. C. White who offered the prayers at the house, the church, and the grave. Interment was in Rose Hill.
