SARAH ANNE LAWLESS BLANKENSHIP
Sarah Anne, daughter of James W. and Nancy Lawless, was born near Jamestown, Russell, Kentucky, April 22, 1860. She passed away Sunday, November 20, 1927 at 10 a.m. Her age was 67 years, 7 months, 8 days. She was the third child of a family of five children. One brother died in infancy and another, Sylvester Lawless having passed away, June 8, 1927.
At the age of eleven, with the family she came to Kansas settling in the Belle Plaine community on the old homestead where she has spent the larger portion of her life.
On July 26, 1879 she was united in marriage with George Epperson who was accidentally killed one year later. They had no children. Wichita, Sedgwick, Kansas Marriage Record. A-188. (They had date of 17 July 1877 for the marriage.)
On April 30, 1885 she was united in marriage with J.N. Blankenship. To this union was born one son, Felix. Sumner County, Kansas Marriage Records. C 67 134.
At the age of sixteen she became a Christian and united with the Church of Christ in Palestine, Kansas, later moving her membership to Belle Plaine where she remained a member until death and has attended worship as often as her health would permit.
The passing of Mrs. Blankenship leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, J.N. Blankenship, her son and only child, Felix, two grandchild-daughters, Edith Carol and Patty Anne Blankenship, two sisters Mrs. Angeline Pergrem and Mrs. Mary Jane Van Curen, all of Belle Plaine, other
relatives and many dear friends. She was a kind and indulgent wife, a devoted mother and grandmother. Her passing will be keenly felt by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Monday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, L.C. Utley in charge. The singing was by the congregation. Interment took place n the Belle Plaine cemetery.
