4th child of Francois (Franz) Cler and Catherine Hugel Cler, brother to Jacob Cler.

He married Margaretha "Magdalena" Cler who was the daughter of Jean Pierre Cler and Madeleine Leyendecker Cler in Nov. 20, 1860 in Vilsberg, Sarrebourg, Meuthe, Moselle, France.

They had 12 children; 5 children were buried in France.

He died at the age of 58.
