UPPER BLACK EDDY, Pa. - Elmer Shoudt Jr. died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003 at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. He was 82. Born in Upper Black Eddy, he was a son of Elmer and Jennie Hilbert Shoudt.

He worked for more than 20 years as a fuel oil handler for N.J. Power and Light in Holland Township, retiring in 1982. Before that, he worked at Walter Fretz Pants factory in Pipersville, Pa., for many years.

Mr. Shoudt was a member of Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church, Upper Black Eddy. He was a member of the Appalachian Fiddle and Bluegrass Association, the Bridgeton Athletic Association, the Bridgeton Sportsman's Association, the Keelersville Club and the Doylestown Manacore Club. He was a social member of the Upper Black Eddy Fire Co. Mr. Shoudt enjoyed county and bluegrass music, going to flea markets, antiques and woodworking.

A brother, Russell, died previously. Surviving are his wife, the former Marian Grace Williams; a son Gary Shoudt, a brother, Erwin, and a sister, Evelyn Freeh, all of Upper Black Eddy; and two grandchildren.

Services were scheduled Jan. 22 at W.E. Johnson Funeral Home in Holland Township, with burial at Upper Tinicum Cemetery, Upper Black Eddy. Memorial donations can be made to Upper Black Eddy Fire Company, Box 171, Upper Black Eddy, PA 18972.
