He worked for the Battle Creek Drug Co. from 1930 until it was sold to Flory Drug. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he returned to work for Flory Drug for the next 15 years.
He then purchased the store and renamed it Reid's Sundry, continuing in business through June 1976. He was town treasurer from 1946 to 1960, then appointed city clerk , reitiring from city service in 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.
