AYERS, Jefferson Davis, (J.D.), 77, of Wytheville, died Saturday, June 21, 1997 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Jefferson Davis & Sallie McGraw Ayers and was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Collins Ayers and a sister, Frances Gillette. He was a life long member of the Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Dean Ayers, Wytheville; son & daughter-in-law, Robert J. "Bob" & Sue P. Ayers of Rural Retreat; grandchildren, Robert E. Hutton, Lebanon, Jane A. Lundy, Wytheville; foster daughter, Betty Lanter, Hillsville; stepchildren, Linda Young, Blacksburg, Dennis Dean, Dublin, David Dean, U.S. Army, Germany; sister & brother-in-law, Elizabeth & Glenn Wright of Max Meadows; brother & sister-in-law, Claude W. & Bernice Ayers of Largo, FL; step grandchildren, Deana Pennington, Peterstown, WV, Dustin Dean, Salem, Rowe Dean, Salem; step great-granddaughter, Kelli Pennington, Peterstown, WV; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. or at the home of his son in Rural Retreat or at the home at 1095 Mountain View Drive at anytime. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church, Wytheville Baptist Church or to your favorite charity. The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
