William L. North was born on December 27, 1808 near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When he was 10, his parents moved to Perry County, Ohio. In 1836, they again moved, this time to Wood County, Ohio. Here, he married Matilda on December 17, 1837. In the spring of 1866, they moved to Belle Plaine, Iowa, and then in the 1870's they moved to Belle Plaine, Kansas, settling 1.5 miles to the east of town. William and Matilda were one of the earliest pioneer families to settle near Belle Plaine, Kansas. William and Matilda had seven children. William died peacefully in his sleep on November 29th, 1880, at 9:00 in the morning.
