Wilmore: Loren A. Austin, 85, of Wesley Drive, formerly of S.Third St. Nicholasville, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the St. Joseph Hospice Care Center. He was a native of Oxford, Kansas born June 19, 1923, to the late Frank R. and Lorena Huffman Austin. He was a veteran of the US Navy and had served during WWII during which time he received a Bronze Star Medal and was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team #4. Loren was a retired employee of Asbury Seminary where he was manager of the maintenance department and a member of the Nicholasville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 66 years Constance F. Austin, a daughter Donna Abbott and husband David, Phoenix, Arizona, a son Dale R. Austin and wife Scharlene Lexington, 6 grandchildren Lena Thornton and husband Dean, Nicholasville, Wendy Flores and husband Oscar, Lexington, David Abbott and wife Sarah, Lexington, Rebekah Valliejo and husband Sergio, VA., Rachel Stewart and husband Greg, IN., and David Allen Austin, Lexington and 3 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thurs., Aug. 28, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Rev. P.L. Clem officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made in his memory to Hospice of the Bluegrass. Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home was chosen for cremation.
